Cast a Line With Us — Adult Fishing Programs at Fall Line Outdoors

Audience: Adults only — beginners, returners, and anyone wanting to deepen their connection to the water.

There’s a moment, on a quiet pond at sunrise or knee-deep in surf as the tide turns, when you stop being a person who is fishing and start being a person who belongs near the water. For a lot of us, that’s the point. The fish are a bonus.

At Fall Line Outdoors, our fishing programs are built for adults — beginners, returners, and anyone who wants to deepen their connection to the water and the wild places around it. No quizzes. No condescension. Just experienced mentors, the right gear, and the time to learn the way adults actually learn: by doing.

Why We Run These Programs

We’re a volunteer-led conservation chapter. Our mentors are adults who fish, hunt, and steward the land themselves — and who believe the best way to grow the next generation of conservationists is to teach adults the skills, ethics, and habits of mind that come with time on the water. Every program is hands-on, every session keeps mentor-to-student ratios tight, and every event sends you home with what you need to keep going on your own.

Freshwater Fishing webinar

Freshwater Fishing — May 23, 2026

Lillington | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM | Free | Adults Only

Our spring freshwater event is the easiest way to start. You’ll spend the morning rotating through three short, hands-on stations and then put it all together with open fishing on a private pond.

  • Knots that hold. We’ll teach two — the Palomar and the Improved Clinch. Between them, they’ll cover the vast majority of freshwater situations you’ll ever encounter.
  • Casting that lands where you aim. Spin-caster fundamentals: grip, release, accuracy. Loaner gear available; bring your own if you have it.
  • Bait and rigging. Standard J-hook with live worm — the rig that has put more fish in more buckets than any other.
  • Open fishing. With the basics in hand, the rest of the morning is yours.

We cap this event at 10 students to keep the mentor-to-student ratio tight. If you’ve never held a rod, this is the morning to show up. If you haven’t fished in twenty years, this is the morning to come back.

Saltwater Fishing — May 27 Webinar + June 27 Surf Fishing

If freshwater is where most people start, the surf is where many of them get hooked for life. Our saltwater track is a two-part program designed for adults who want to learn to fish the Carolina coast on their own — not just tag along on someone else’s trip.

May 27, 2026 — Saltwater Fishing Webinar (Online) A practical evening session on what surf fishing actually involves: rigs, rods, reading the beach, picking your tide, knowing what’s biting and when. Bring questions; we’ll bring answers from people who fish these waters all season long.

June 27, 2026 — Surf Fishing Hands-On Day (Coastal NC) A full day at the beach, learning by doing. We’ll coordinate transportation logistics and provide guidance on setup, casting from sand, and rigging for surf species. The webinar is strongly recommended for preparation, but not required.

Final location, packing list, and registration window will be posted on this page at least one week before the event.

What to Expect

  • Adults only. These events are designed for adult learners; no visitors under 18, please.
  • Beginners welcome. No prior experience required. Truly.
  • Loaner gear available. You don’t need to buy anything to attend your first event.
  • Mentor-led, not lecture-led. You’ll spend more time doing than listening. Dress accordingly!
  • Conservation ethic. We fish the way we want everyone to fish — legally, ethically, and with respect for nature. Both the fish, the coast, and the dunes.

How to Join

Both events are free for FLOC participants. Spots are limited and fill on a first-come basis.

If this is the year you finally learn — or relearn — we’d love to have you on the water with us.
