From the Turkey Woods to Fresh Fried Catfish
After an early morning turkey hunt, members of the FLOC group gathered by the water for an afternoon of fishing, fish cleaning, and outdoor cooking before heading back out for more turkey hunting later in the day. The trip was a perfect example of fellowship outdoors — combining hunting, fishing, learning, and good food all into one memorable day.
The group spent time catching and cleaning catfish while sharing tips and techniques beside the pond. Several members worked together at the portable cleaning station, demonstrating fish cleaning methods, knife safety, and preparation techniques for cooking fresh fish outdoors.
The atmosphere throughout the day was relaxed and full of laughter, teamwork, and conversation. Trips like these are more than simply catching fish — they are opportunities to teach outdoor skills, build friendships, and enjoy time together outside.

Fresh catfish were cleaned right beside the water using a portable fish cleaning setup that allowed everyone to gather around, participate, and learn. The hands-on experience gave us outdoorsmen an opportunity to put our outdoor skills to the test.
Once the fish were cleaned, the cast iron skillet was fired up on the camp stove and fresh catfish was fried right beside the water. The fish came out golden brown and crispy, making for an outstanding meal between hunts. We also cooked up some hush puppies with onions.

Fresh fried catfish cooked outdoors after a morning in the turkey woods is hard to beat. The cast iron setup quickly became the center of attention as hot fish came straight from the skillet onto paper towels, ready to eat.
The day highlighted exactly what FLOC outdoor events are meant to provide:
- Fellowship outdoors
- Hands-on learning opportunities
- Hunting and fishing experience
- Outdoor cooking and shared meals
- Time spent building friendships and skills together
From the turkey woods at sunrise to fried catfish beside the pond in the afternoon, it was a day full of memories, learning, and appreciation for the outdoors. The group wrapped up the afternoon and prepared to head back out for the evening turkey hunt, already looking forward to the next FLOC adventure.
Tight lines and good hunting!
